Poetry, Religious Studies, and Fly Fishing

I am an assistant professor of English at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. I specialize in British Renaissance literature, particularly the works of the poet John Milton and the philosopher Thomas Hobbes. My research interests include the religious texture of early modern political thought; the use of biblical narratives to interpret crises of state; genre theory and the evolution of epic; political philosophies of sovereignty, both early modern and modern; and the literary afterlives of Milton and Shakespeare, particularly in Science Fiction.

I am also an avid fly fisherman. Whenever I can, I slip out to New Mexico and Colorado to catch rainbow trout on the evening hatch of caddis flies, blue-winged olives, and pale morning duns.
